A boy from our world. A cracked blade. An oni who took everything. This is how Kaito's journey begins.
01 · Prologue
A rainy night in Japan
One rainy night in present-day Japan, Kaito reaches into his late grandfather's dying forge fire, and falls out of it in another world.
02 · Lohagram
The mountain village
He lands in Lohagram, a mountain village of sandstone and brass lamps. Daigo, an old smith, takes him in as an apprentice.
03 · The Vault
The cracked sword
Kaito draws a cracked sword from a sealed vault, and the seal bursts. Daigo holds it shut with his bare hands, and turns to stone.
04 · The Oni
The seal stone is taken
Gorran the Iron Oni carries off the seal stone, into the burning heart of the mountain.
05 · The Temples
Blade, shield and bow
To bring Daigo back, Kaito must walk the old Guardian temples and earn the blade, the shield and the bow, then fill his master's cracks with gold, the way kintsugi mends broken pottery.
06 · The Cinder Throne
Something wakes
Far away, on the Cinder Throne, Vharos the Demon King opens his eyes.
“...I know that fire.”
“Cracks aren't the end. They're where things go in.”
The name
What is kintsugi?
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold. Instead of hiding the cracks, it makes them shine. They become part of the object's story.
Kaito carries a cracked sword, and his master has turned to stone. To bring Daigo back, he must fill those cracks with gold.
The World
Welcome to Lohagram
An invented, Indian-inspired fantasy land in the mountains. It isn't based on real gods or myths: its guardians and demons are all its own.
Sandstone temples
The old Guardian temples, where the blade, the shield and the bow are earned.
Stepwells
Deep stone wells cut into the earth, older than anyone in the village remembers.
Brass lamps
Warm light in every doorway of Lohagram, and a whole temple of lamps beyond it.
Monsoon forests
Dense, rain-soaked forests that hide more than wildlife.
